Fiber Fright Nights Crochet Along 2024

The spookiest crochet along of the year is here!

July 23rd marks 100 Nights to Halloween this year. Can you believe it?!?

Our 100 Nights of Fiber Frights crochet along is in full swing. We'll be working up a corner to corner crochet blanket with some color work.

It might look scary at first, especially if you've never done corner to corner crochet before but trust me, it's easier than it seems.

Gauge

Create a swatch that is 7 by 7 tiles. ( 7 rows increase and 7 rows decrease) The square should measure 5x5 inches.

*Creating a swatch helps to make sure the size of the blanket will match the original pattern and the amount of yarn used. You can unravel this after to use for the actual blanket.

Pattern:

  • Odd Rows=Right side of blanket

  • Even Rows=Wrong side of blanket

  • The first tile worked is the bottom right corner of the picture and will be starting with the right side of the picture. When looking at the graph, find tile 1.

Working Corner to Corner Crochet:

Row 1

  •  Starting with color A, chain 5.

  • DC in the 3rd CH from hook.

  • DC in the next 2 CHS. This completes the 1st block.

Row 2

  •  Turn the project, (we’re now working on the wrong side of the picture)

  • Ch 5. DC in the 3rd CH from hook.

  • DC in the next 2 CHS. This completes the 1st tile.

  • Join this tile with row 1 tile by finding the chain 3 space created from the turning CH of row 1, slip stitch into that CH-2-SP.

  • CH 2. 3DC into that same CH-2-SP. (2 tiles complete for row 2)

Row 3

  • Turn the project, (we’re now on the right side of the picture)

  • Ch 5. DC in the 3rd CH from hook.

  • DC in the next 2 CHS. (1st tile)

  • SL ST into the CH-2-SP from previous row.

  • CH 2. 3 DC into the same CH-2-SP. (2nd tile)

  • SL ST into the next CH-2-SP from previous row.

  • Ch 2. 3 DC into the same CH-2-SP (3rd tile)

  • Continue following this pattern. Turning at the beginning of each row as you increase.

  • In this pattern you will increase to row 65. For example, row 4 has 4 tiles, row 5 has 5 tiles and so on until row 65.

  • Follow the graph provided to see when to change colors.

  • This blanket is a rectangle meaning one side will start to decrease before the other.

Changing Colors:

  •  In the tile before the color change, do not complete the last yarn over of the 3rd DC.

  • With 2 loops of the old color on the hook, use the new color to complete the DC.

  • SL ST into the CH-2-SP of the previous row and continue on with the pattern.

  • Don’t carry a color not in use over multiple tiles. This will result in a less crisp picture and some of the carried colors might show through.

Decreasing Rows:

  • SL St in the next 2 DC across.

  • SL ST into the Ch-2-SP.

  • Ch 2. 3 DC into the same CH-2-SP of the previous row.

  • Decrease is complete and tile 1 made for this row.

Finished Blanket

  • Once you’ve closed the last tile, cut the working yarn and weave in the ends.

  • There is no border required on this blanket. The stitches play out in a way that makes a nice finished look for the edges.
